En forgeant un conservatisme moderne, qu'il a popularisé auprès des masses, il laisse un héritage politique et idéologique colossal, ainsi qu'une image contradictoire. Pour bien des Américains, leur patrie reste d'ailleurs aujourd'hui le «pays de Reagan»
